Do you need a new car battery?

Slow cranking, repeated jump starts and electrical problems can suggest a failing battery, but they do not prove that replacement is required. Loose terminals, charging faults and vehicles left unused for long periods can also cause low battery voltage.

A battery test and basic inspection can help decide whether the battery should be charged, replaced or investigated further. We avoid recommending a new battery solely because the vehicle failed to start once.

Choosing the correct battery

Vehicle batteries differ in physical dimensions, terminal position, polarity, capacity, starting performance and construction. Common fitment systems include Japanese JIS and European DIN sizes; a similar-looking battery may still be unsuitable.

Some vehicles require EFB or AGM batteries, and certain modern models need battery registration or coding after replacement. We must verify the exact make, model, year and current battery specification before confirming a product or installation method.

What mobile battery service involves

When suitable stock and a technician are available, the process may include checking the battery specification, discussing replacement options, travelling to the vehicle, testing the existing battery and fitting the replacement. The technician should inspect terminal condition and verify that the battery is secured correctly.

Some vehicles have difficult battery locations or electronic procedures that require additional equipment. If the work is outside our available capability, we will explain the limitation instead of attempting an unsuitable installation.

Battery testing and charging-system checks

A battery tester can provide information about starting-battery condition, but test results must be interpreted alongside symptoms and vehicle history. A battery that tests poorly after deep discharge may need charging and retesting in appropriate circumstances.

A vehicle that repeatedly drains a good battery may have a parasitic electrical draw or alternator problem. Replacing the battery without addressing the underlying issue could lead to another breakdown.

Warranty, exchange and final price

Ask for the brand, model, capacity, warranty terms and total delivered-and-fitted price before accepting a quotation. Battery prices can vary by specification and stock. Old-battery exchange arrangements, where offered, should be explained clearly.

Keep your receipt and warranty documentation. Warranty conditions are set by the relevant supplier or manufacturer and may exclude certain kinds of misuse or vehicle electrical faults.

Preparing for a mobile replacement

Send a photo of the current battery label if it is safely accessible, along with the vehicle model and year. Mention any start-stop system, hybrid drivetrain or unusual battery location. Avoid disconnecting the battery yourself if the vehicle may require special procedures.
