Locked keys inside the car?

A car lockout can happen when the doors close with the key still inside, when a boot is shut with the key in the luggage compartment, or when a remote stops working. The appropriate solution depends on the vehicle model, the condition of the lock and whether a working mechanical key is available.

We provide enquiries for authorised vehicle access assistance, not an automatic promise that every lock can be opened. Modern vehicles have different door seals, deadlocking arrangements and electronic security systems.

What we need before dispatch

Tell us the make, model, year and whether the key is visible inside the cabin, locked in the boot or completely missing. Explain whether the car is safely parked and whether there is a child, pet or other immediate safety concern inside.

The person requesting the service must be able to demonstrate ownership or authorisation to access the vehicle. The technician may request identification and supporting vehicle information before starting work.

How an unlocking visit works

After verifying authorisation, the technician assesses the door and lock arrangement and chooses a suitable method within their equipment and experience. Some situations can be handled without replacing a lock or cutting a key; others require specialist tools, additional work or a separate key service.

We prioritise careful methods where technically possible, but no provider should guarantee damage-free access in every situation. The condition of the vehicle, previous repairs and security system can affect the result.

Remote battery failure versus vehicle battery failure

A remote that stops responding may simply need a new key-fob battery, while a flat vehicle battery can prevent normal central-locking operation. Some vehicles have an emergency mechanical key blade or an alternative access procedure described in the owner’s manual.

If you have a mechanical key, try the manufacturer-approved access method rather than forcing the handle or prying a window. Tell us if the key turns but the door does not open, because that can indicate a different mechanical fault.

When unlocking is not the complete solution

If the only key has been lost, unlocking the door may not allow the vehicle to start. Key cutting, immobiliser programming or a new remote may be separate services requiring additional tools and a different quotation.

Similarly, a damaged lock cylinder or door mechanism may need repair after access is restored. We explain any limitation before proceeding rather than representing unlocking as a universal repair.
