About this service

A flat tyre may require a spare-wheel change, inflation or professional puncture assessment. The suitable solution depends on tyre damage, vehicle access and equipment available. Not every damaged tyre can be repaired safely at the roadside.

Understanding this roadside service

What to do when a tyre goes flat

A sudden loss of pressure can affect steering and braking. If you are driving, slow down smoothly and move to a safe place without abrupt manoeuvres. Avoid stopping in a dangerous lane merely to inspect the tyre. Switch on hazard lights when appropriate and follow local road-safety requirements.

Do not continue driving on a completely flat tyre. Even a short distance can damage the sidewall, wheel and internal structure of the tyre, potentially making a puncture that was repairable unsafe to repair.

Puncture, valve leak or damaged tyre?

A nail or screw in the tread is one possible cause of air loss. A leaking valve, damaged wheel rim, bead problem or sidewall cut can produce similar symptoms. The correct response depends on the location and severity of the damage.

A tyre that has been driven while flat may have internal damage not visible from outside. An external plug or temporary inflation is not a substitute for a proper safety assessment where the repair standard requires inspection.

Roadside spare-wheel fitting

If the vehicle has a usable spare wheel, roadside assistance may involve checking that it is suitable, positioning the vehicle safely, lifting it using the correct jacking point and installing the spare according to manufacturer instructions.

Space-saver spare wheels often have speed and distance restrictions. A spare wheel may also be underinflated or unsuitable after years of storage. Tell us whether your vehicle has a full-size spare, temporary spare or only a repair kit.

When puncture repair may be possible

Not every puncture can be repaired. Repairability depends on tyre construction, puncture location, hole size, prior repairs and damage caused by driving underinflated. Sidewall and shoulder damage often rules out a safe repair.

Only advertise on-site puncture repair when the dispatched technician has the required equipment and can perform a repair that meets applicable tyre safety standards. Otherwise, we can discuss available roadside options without promising an unsafe quick fix.

Information that helps us dispatch

Share your vehicle type, exact location, which tyre is affected and whether the tyre is completely flat or slowly losing pressure. Tell us whether a spare wheel and wheel-lock key are available. A clear photograph may help explain visible damage, but it cannot confirm internal tyre condition.

Also tell us whether the vehicle is on a slope, in an underground car park or on the shoulder of a busy road. Technician safety and access determine whether the work can be completed at that spot.

Availability and next steps

RoadAssist accepts enquiries for Colombo and surrounding suburbs. Tyre service options vary by equipment, technician availability and the actual damage. The charge and proposed work should be confirmed before dispatch.

If the vehicle is in an unsafe position or cannot be repaired at the roadside, do not attempt to move it on a damaged tyre simply to make the job easier. Seek an appropriate safe recovery arrangement separately; RoadAssist does not advertise towing or recovery services.
